First Glance: “Alien: Romulus”

Yesterday 20th Century Studios dropped a killer new poster as part of their promotion for the upcoming “Alien: Romulus”. Today they’ve given us the first full trailer, and much like the poster, it really helps set the mood for this seventh installment in the long-running Alien franchise. Directed by Fede Álvarez (“Evil Dead”, “Don’t Breathe”) and starring Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”, “Civil War”), “Romulus” is set between the first two films yet is unconnected to both. Interesting.

The first trailer is delightfully terrifying and really sets the table for fans of the franchise. The story follows a small group of space colonists who happen upon a seemingly abandoned space station. But after they board, the group discovers that they aren’t alone. You can probably guess what I mean. Originally planned for a Hulu release, it was decided that “Romulus” would be coming to theaters. After seeing the new trailer, that looks like the very best place to watch it. I can’t wait.

“Alien: Romulus” hatches in theaters on August 16th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.

  1. Oh man I can’t wait for this. Fede has yet to disappoint me (Girl in the Spider’s Web? never heard of it). Glad it’s getting a theatrical release. Would’ve loved to see Prey in theaters, or hey a double billing of Prey and Romulus!

  2. This could be good if they don’t go crazy in the special effects department. They did kind of screw up the original series with the third and fourth movies.
