NEON Releases Two New Posters for Steven Soderbergh’s “Presence”

Today NEON dropped two new official posters for “Presence”, their upcoming supernatural horror film from director Steven Soderbergh. Plot details have been scarce for this delightfully cryptic chiller and that’s a good thing. What we do know is that the story (written for the screen by David Koepp) involves a family who discovers they’re not alone after moving into a new house. That sounds pretty generic, but with Soderbergh at the helm you know there will be more here than meets the eye.

“Presence” stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, West Mulholland, and Lucas Papaelias. It’s set to release January 17th. Check out the new studio released posters below and let me know what you think.

  1. this should be a very good movie in theory because of the director And writer.

Keith, question, do you believe in the Auteur theory? am wondering if the writer, actors, and editor have just as much importance as the director

    • It’s such an interesting idea. I do believe in the Auteur theory to a point. I think it fits for certain filmmakers but certainly not all. The distinct filmographies of specific directors prove it for me. And you could make a case that selecting the right writers, actors, and editors is part of a good director’s “authorship”.

At the same time I don’t believe it can be applied to every director. I think some rely on screenwriters and actors more than their own creative vision.

Either way, I do think its clear than all play a significant role in a movie being great. And regardless of where the director stands, he or she can’t do what they do with the talents of many.

      • Agreed and am thinking that the authorship theory fits a Very small group only ( i may be wrong). and they deserve the credit.

but I guess there are times when it seems the writers are not given enough attention. For example, David Koepp has written so many good movies. But his name is not emphasized on movie posters

Then there are the Actors. The directors are often credited for the creation. but one must never underestimate this fact: that a movie star can save a bad screenplay, while a director can’t.
