The Mission: Impossible film series has spanned nearly thirty years. Now series fans are wondering if this might be the last installment in what has been one of the best action franchises of all time. Several weeks ago Paramount Pictures released the killer first trailer for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” which only boosted the anticipation. Now they’ve dropped the final trailer and it’s fair to say it ratchets up the excitement even more.

Producer and star Tom Cruise reteams with director, writer, and producer Christopher McQuarrie in the direct sequel to 2023’s extraordinary “Dead Reckoning Part One”. Joining Hanks is a host of familiar Mission: Impossible faces including Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Haley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, an Pom Klementieff. The story follows race to control a rogue artificial intelligence called “The Entity”. We can once again expect big action and big adventure. And with marketing like “Every Choice, every mission, has all led to this“, this might be the last impossible mission we take with this group.

Wes Anderson fans rejoice! Today Focus Features dropped the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s next film and let’s just say it’s about as Wes Anderson as a movie trailer can be. “The Phoenician Scheme” features a star-studded ensemble of Anderson regulars. It also features Anderson’s signature style, both visually and comically. As a longtime fan, everything about this first extended look clicks. Even better, we won’t have to wait long to see it.

Anderson directs and co-writes (with Roman Coppola) a film that is described as an espionage black comedy. Benicio del Toro gets top billing playing Zsa-zsa Korda, a millionaire business magnate and father of ten. Gleaning much about the story from the trailer is an challenge, but it seems Korda takes on a “land and sea infrastructure scheme.” He’s accompanied by his daughter who’s a nun (Mia Threapleton) and his tutor (Michael Cera). Of course they encounter a colorful collection of characters in a movie that looks to be an Anderson fan’s delight.

Slasher movies had a mainstream resurgence of sorts in the late 1990s starting with Wes Craven’s “Scream” in 1996 followed by Jim Gillespie’s “I know What You Did Last Summer” in 1997. The latter spawned two sequels – a decent one in 1998 and a direct-to-video disaster in 2006. Now the franchise is getting a new installment which is positioned as a direct sequel to the second film while weirdly sharing the same name as the first film. The movie is being released by Sony Pictures Releasing who just dropped the first simple yet effective poster.

Warner Brothers Discovery Home Entertainment is releasing the science-fiction thriller “Companion” on and 4K Ultra high definition. “Companion” is written and directed by Drew Hancock who has a field day mixing romance and horror into a twisted tale with equal measures of satire and gore. The film is anchored by its star, Sophie Thatcher playing a young woman who discovers that neither she or her reality is quite what she thought it was. Though light on extras, this is an edition that’s well worth having if you’re a fan of the film. Read my review of “Companion” HERE.

Paul Thomas Anderson is a highly regarded filmmaker who earns attention with every new movie he releases. For me personally, I find his films to be pretty hit-or-miss. But when PTA does hit, he hits BIG. That’s the main reason I’m excited for his latest, “One Battle After Another”. Today the first full trailer dropped and let’s just say my excitement got a boost.

“One Battle After Another” is a black comedy said to be inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s classic 1997 novel “Vineland.” It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a manic hippie turned anti-government activist who calls on a motley band of revolutionaries to help him take on some white supremacist organization. The film is highlighted by a fun supporting cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Alana Haim, and Sean Penn. With a budget somewhere in the $100 – $145 million range, it looks like PTA is pouring a lot into this one.

Ryan Coogler reteams with Michael B. Jordan in “Sinners”, a period horror film set in the 1930s Jim Crow-era South. Jordan gets double duty playing twin brothers who attempt to leave their troubled lives behind by returning to their small hometown. But instead of a warm welcome, they’re faced with a brutal supernatural evil that has them fighting for their lives. The trailers for “Sinners” have done a great job setting the table. Now Warner Bros. has released a killer new poster for a movie that looks to be a blood-soaked and action-packed good time.
