New Character Posters for “Anemone”

Focus Features has released three stunning new character posters for “Anemone” coinciding with the film’s weekend release in select theaters. “Anemone” marks the return to acting for Daniel Day-Lewis following eight years in retirement. The new posters are brilliantly fitting for this dark psychological family drama that also stars Sean Bean and Samantha Morton. And it’s directed by Ronan Day-Lewis, the son of Daniel Day-Lewis, who also co-wrote the screenplay with his revered father.

“Anemone” deftly uses the complex relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers to examine such heavy and uncomfortable themes as childhood trauma, PTSD, strained family bonds, isolation, and self-condemnation versus self-forgiveness. It’s a movie overflowing with artistic vision from a daring first-time director and anchored by a brilliant return performance from a generation’s best actor. “Anemone” is one of the year’s best films.

New on Home Video: “Superman” on 4K Ultra HD + Digital

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is bringing their summer blockbuster hit “Superman” to home video. This reimagining of the iconic superhero is the first film in James Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe. Writer-director Gunn injects his signature style into a movie that feels more a kickstart to the DCU than an actual Superman story. That’s only one of the movie’s several issues, yet the film did well, taking in over $615 million at the box office. You can read my full review of the film [HERE].

This 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition of “Superman” includes a digital copy and will be available to purchase on September 23rd. See below for a full synopsis of the film as well as a list of special features.

When Superman is drawn into conflicts both abroad and at home, his actions to protect humankind are questioned, and his vulnerability allows tech billionaire and master deceiver Lex Luthor to leverage the opportunity to get Superman out of the way for good.  Will the Daily Planet’s intrepid reporter Lois Lane, together with the aid of Metropolis’s other metahumans and Superman’s own four-legged companion, Krypto, be able to help Superman before Luthor can completely destroy him?

The film follows Superman’s journey to reconcile his heritage as the Kryptonian Kal-El with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas, and his selfless determination to use his power for good as humanity’s protector. Remembering Robert Redford (1936 – 2025)

Screen veteran Robert Redford passed away earlier today (September 16, 2025) at his home in Provo, Utah. The celebrated actor, director, producer was 89 years-old. No cause of death has been released, but a statement said he died in his sleep.

Redford was born on August 18, 1936 in Santa Monica, California. After a stint at the University of Colorado, a young Redford took classes at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Shortly after, he made his Broadway debut with a bit part in 1959’s “Tall Story”. Redford’s television career began in the early 1960s, highlighted by appearances on “The Twilight Zone”, “Route 66”, “The Untouchables”, “Perry Mason”, and “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”.

Redford made his big screen debut in 1960 with the feature adaptation of “Tall Story”. From there his roles began increasing in size and quality. His career skyrocketed in 1969 when he landed the co-leading role alongside Paul Newman in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”. Suddenly Robert Redford was a major Hollywood movie star and a string of high-quality hits followed including “The Candidate”, “The Sting”, and “All the President’s Men”.

His success continued throughout the 1980’s with movies like “The Natural”, “Out of Africa”, and “Legal Eagles”. But his biggest movie from the decade may have been his directorial debut, “Ordinary People”. The drama was a critical and commercial success. It also earned six Academy Award nominations, winning four including Best Picture and Best Director for Redford. Redford’s career continued from there with him playing in everything from small indies to big Marvel blockbusters.

Redford was a fierce advocate for independent cinema. He helped found and organize the Sundance Film Festival, an annual festival showcasing new independent films from American and international filmmakers. Not only does the Sundance Film Festival screen new projects, but it gives filmmakers opportunities to find distributors. Just another example of the long-lasting impact Redford has had on the industry.

What are you thoughts on Robert Redford and his 65 year career?

First Glance: “Nouvelle Vague”

The French New Wave movement has played a critical role in my deep love for cinema. While it bloomed well before I was born, I later found myself infatuated with the works of Truffaut, Godard, Rohmer, Rivette, Chabrol, Varda, Resnais, and others. So naturally I was drawn to “Nouvelle Vague”, a playful and passionate reimaging of the making of one of the movement’s signature films, “Breathless”. And if that wasn’t enough, it just so happens to be directed by one of the best, Richard Linklater.

From its first trailer, Guillaume Marbeck offers a spitting image of film critic turned filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. Zoey Deutch has a stunningly similarity to Jean Seberg. And Aubry Dullin channels the cool suavity of Jean-Paul Belmondo. The film was filmed in Paris and entirely in French. It was also shot in pristine black-and-white in a period-perfect 4:3 aspect ration. We get a taste of all of this and more in the exciting new trailer which has managed to leave me even more excited.

“Nouvelle Vague” releases in select theaters on October 31st before streaming on Netflix November 14th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.

First Glance: “Anemone”

For fans like me, it doesn’t get much more exciting than this. Daniel Day-Lewis returns to acting following his surprise retirement eight years ago. Rightfully heralded by many (myself included) as our greatest living actor, the 68-year-old Day-Lewis has delivered countless superb performances. He’s won three Oscars, four BAFTAs, and two Golden Globe awards. And now he’s back, starring in his first film since 2017’s “Phantom Thread”.

And if his return wasn’t enough, he’s appearing in a film directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. The two co-wrote the script which has mostly been kept under wraps. What we do know is that it has been called an absorbing family drama that explores the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons. Joining Day-Lewis on screen is the underrated Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green. I can’t wait.

“Anemone” is set to be released in theaters on October 3rd. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
