5 Phenomenal 2018 Super Bowl Teasers

PHENOM 5

The amount of money spent on Super Bowl advertisements is notorious. Products pay millions of dollars for 30 seconds to one minute of commercial time. Movie studious are no different. I have a blast watching for new movie reveals and this year’s stock was pretty strong. Here are my five favorites:

#5 – “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”

Why is this even on the list? Because it is a substantial step up from the first trailer. In fact, it actually has me a little interested in what Universal has in store for us. The previous film was pretty forgettable (and sometimes down-right laughable). This well-made teaser offers a little optimism for the next installment.

#4 – “Solo: A Star War Story”

My skepticism over this idea is still pretty high, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit to a little excitement over the images we get in the Super Bowl teaser. I love the look of the film (what we can see) and it appears there may be a pretty good concept behind it all. But our first look at Ehrenreich’s Solo compared to Harrison Ford’s from “A New Hope”…let’s just say connecting those two may be a challenge.

#3 – “A Quiet Place”

What started off as a cool horror movie concept has grown into a film I’m genuinely excited for. John Krasinski directs, co-writes, and stars alongside real-life wife Emily Blunt. It also features Millicent Simmonds who was wonderful in 2017’s “Wonderstruck”. The Super Bowl teaser is soaking with tension and it will be interesting to see if the movie can deliver on such potential.

#2 – “The Cloverfield Paradox”

Well played Netflix. Well played. “The Cloverfield Paradox” gets a spot this high just for the sheer audacity of it all. The teaser was a surprise and looked cool in and of itself, but when it was revealed that it would premiere on Netflix immediately after the game, well who saw that coming? It was an incredibly gutsy move and something completely new for the motion picture business.

#1 – “Mission Impossible: Fallout”

I’ll admit it. I’m a big fan of Christopher McQuarrie’s take on the “Mission Impossible” series. The Super Bowl teaser highlighted many of the reasons why. It looks like the full cast is back including Rebecca Ferguson who was amazing in “Rogue Nation”. New addition Henry Cavill and his killer mustache gets a proper introduction and it looks like he’ll be a key player. And then we learn it’s all a teaser for the full trailer which is even better. Needless to say I can’t wait for July 27th.

So which movie teasers were your? Please share you favorites and no-so-favorites in the comments section below.

    • I’m more interested in “Jurassic” than before. As for “Solo”, I adore Star Wars and I sooo want this to work. Fingers crossed. No “MI: Fallout” for you?

      • I’m not usually a big fan of long running franchises but I have seen the trailer and I am interested. Just the other two stand out more. Both relate to my childhood so they have more riding on it.

      • Completely understand that. For me Star Wars will always be a big deal. I grew up adoring it and will always have a soft spot for it.

  1. I ain’t going to see Mission: Impossible. It’s the same old bullshit from that old dinosaur who is taking spots that should be given to younger and better actors.

Solo looks cool while I’m intrigued about A Quiet Place. Jurassic World might be interesting since it’s directed by J.A. Bayona while I’m not sure about Cloverfield Paradox.

    • Oh I’m there day one for MI Fallout. I love what McQuarrie has done with the series and I really like Cruise in that role. He has made it his own.

  2. As a Giants fan, I only caught part of the game last night, but I was pleased to see the new Cloverfield trailer. Haven’t caught it on Netflix yet, but will try to see it tomorrow night.

  3. I know the first isn’t on your list but I’m here for Infinity War and The Quiet Place. The Cloverfield Paradox was good, I thought. But it seems most people hated it.

    • Very interested in Infinity War but for some reason the teaser left me a little cool. The reactions to Paradox have been crazy. I’m finishing up my review. Hope to have it up tomorrow.

  4. I didn’t care for Fallen Kingdom at all, probably gonna skip it if I didn’t get a press screening. But I’m suuuuper stoked for MI6!! SOLO is a wait and see, not sold yet on the lead actor.

    • Fallen Kingdom certainly gives us reasons to be skeptical. I didn’t just love the last movie. Oh but MI6! I’m so with you. And Solo may be the biggest question mark of the year for me.

  5. I really loved the Mission Impossible trailer . I was looking forward to it but now I’m truly amped . Its my most anticipated blockbuster this summer . The Han trailer left me going , I don’t know . Not sold on the lead actor at all . A Quiet Place is now a must see . That really looked good and Blunt is always stellar . I was really underwhelmed by Infinity Wars . Nothing new and even though the stakes are suppose to be “high” , it still feels like a typical MCU entry . As to Jurassic , I’m like meh . I have never been a fan of any really . I liked the first one back I the day but it didn’t blow me away . Cloverfield looked good , and I will be watching it this week . I don’t rely on critics to decide if I watch anything , no offense lol In all honesty , your reviews are some of the fairest I have ever read . Keep up the excellent work . I’ve been sharing your site with friends .

    • Thank you for the kind words and you’re 100% right not to let critics (or anyone) determine what you watch. I’m with you there.

I know what you mean regarding Infinity Wars. I’m looking forward to it, but the teaser did practically nothing the trailer hasn’t already managed. Not a single WOW moment. I also get your apathy towards Jurassic. The last movie certainly didn’t earn excitement for a sequel.

As for The Cloverfield Paradox, my review went up today and it certainly doesn’t fall in with the majority. Definitely give it a look.
