The long-time gamer in me cant help but be at least a little intrigued by the new trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog”. The video game debuted way back in 1991 on the Sega Genesis and I played it for countless hours. Since then there have been numerous sequels, comics, and several animated series. But now we have a live-action movie and it looks……bizarre.
To be clear I’m not sure if it’s bizarre in a good way or bad. But it looks completely ludicrous which is kinda what you need it to be. And who is the ringleader of the nuttiness – Jim Carrey playing Sonic’s nemesis Dr. Robotnik and he is in full 90’s Carrey mode. Again, whether that’s good or bad remains to be seen. But so far…I’m curious enough to give it a look.
“Sonic the Hedgehog” speeds into theaters on November 8th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or giving it a pass.

This really has to hard into bizarre-land if it can possibly work. If it’s not some kind of intentionally absurd and over-the-top thing it will probably be an absolute disaster.

I recall playing this with my sons ,quite a bit. Perhaps Im strange but this has me truly intrigued. Perhaps it’s just weird curiosity but I’ll see it. Carrey is in full, something. My take away it will be either pretty cool or a hot mess.
I’m with you. There’s a weird nostalgic attraction but also a full awareness that this could be a complete mess.

Honestly, if this came out about 10 years ago, it might’ve been acceptable, but right now, the only that could’ve made it worse was to cast Adam Sandler as the voice of Sonic. This is NOT going to end well for anyone involved. Not the audience, not the studios, not the actors…nobody.

It won’t make that back. Not even close. I’m calling it now: Sonic is going to be dead on arrival. I don’t mind some video game movies. There are some that I thoroughly enjoy: Mortal Kombat, Prince of Persia, and Rampage. Tomb Raider knocked it out of the park as far as I’m concerned. It IS possible to make a decent video game and that’s all I’m asking. Sonic does not look decent at all.
Oh I quite like Tomb Raider. Terribly underrated movie IMO.
So Sonic is known for a soundtrack of bangers which one are the going to use for the trailer: Green Hill Zone, Reach for the Stars, Sonic Boom, Live & Learn, Escape from the City, Sonic Heroes, His World, Angel Island Zone, Super Sonic Racing?
