The upcoming historical drama “The Current War” was one of several projects sidetracked due to the despicable Harvey Weinstein scandal. Originally slated for a December 2017 release, rights to distribute the film were finally worked out and now it looks to be hitting theaters soon.
Led by an impressive ensemble, the film follows the electricity pioneers as they battle it out to see who will lead and control the fledgling industry. Check out this cast: Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse, Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla, and Tom Holland as Samuel Insull. It’s directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”) and Martin Scorsese is tagged as Executive Producer.
The first trailer has dropped and it offers up a ton of promise. “The Current War” hits theaters October 4th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or giving it a pass.
I will definitely be seeing this! I see there’s a scene shot at Cragside, the first home in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity and I go there now and then to photograph it so have a vested interest.
REALLY??? That’s really cool!
Check this out 🙂 there’s a bit about Edison in it.

I am so incredibly jealous. Love the photos!
Thanks! It’s a fab place.
You know I was wondering what happened with that film. I saw a trailer ages ago, and then nothing ever came of it! Sounds like I will soon get to check it out 🙂
Absolutely. Unfortunately it was another movie lost for a while following Weinstein’s pathetic behavior. I’m really glad distribution rights got worked out. It looks really interesting, doesn’t it?
I was very intrigued at the trailer I saw! I wouldn’t mind seeing it one bit.
Same here!
I saw that trailer yesterday and… I’m not sure if I want to see it. Plus, you’re not going to convince me about who played Tesla better as I will always see David Bowie as the definitive version of Nikolas Tesla from The Prestige.
To be honest I’m pretty interested in it. I do like Bowie’s Tesla. I just think this is going to be a much different version of the character. Hoult is an interesting and unexpected choice.
