I’ll be honest, I’m still not fully onboard the Timothée Chalamet hype train. He’s a lot like Jennifer Lawrence, a young star who suddenly became the toast of Hollywood and the awards circuits. Don’t get me wrong, like Lawrence he has a ton of talent and it will be fun watching him grow as an actor. But is he really the second coming of (insert your choice of the greatest actor of all time here)? Not quite.
To his credit Chalamet has made some inspired movie choices including his upcoming film “The King”. It’s a Netflix Original based of Shakespeare’s Henry plays and for me the biggest draws may be behind the camera. Australian filmmaker David Michôd directs and co-writes alongside Joel Edgerton (who also sports a supporting role). Other interesting names pop up as supporting players: Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelsohn, Thomasin McKenzie, and Sean Harris. I’m intrigued.
“The King” premieres at the Venice International Film Festival on September 2nd before hitting Netflix on October 11th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
You got me. I missed the train. Who the heck is he? The King looks good, I’ll keep my eye out for it.
He’s a talented young actor and a lot of people are really smitten with him. He already has a couple of Oscar nominations to his name. He’s been in Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, and Beautiful Boy among other things.
I saw Lady Bird. No bells are ringing. That’s okay.
This looks interesting as I do like Timothee Chalamet but I too hope he doesn’t go into route of J-Law who has now been overexposed and at times, being unbearable to watch.
Overexposed is a great word. What was her last film, X-Men? And it was a smaller supporting role. Chalamet seems to be running the same risk.
Exactly. I hope he doesn’t win Oscars immediately. Just take the time to do things and create a vast body of work. After all, there’s so many other great actors/actresses who are creating a vast body of work and have yet to win an Oscar right now.
So true.
The film looks good but I didn’t know who he was either.
I’m anxious to see it.
Still haven’t got Netflix 🤣
Booooo! You need to give it a whirl.
Yeah I know, but Hubby hasn’t cancelled Sky yet and we cant have Netflix til thats done!! I will have to nag! 😀
Let me know when the Scoob trailer’s out 🛌
The words Netflix Original are now officially horrific. I may check it out but I am certain it’s nothing great, Netflix really damaged their brand releasing all those mediocre films
It’s funny, I have found several of their movies I have loved over recent years. Certainly a lot of stinkers though.
