Chalk it up to me simply not paying attention, but I had no idea David Lowery had a new movie coming this year. He captured my attention on 2017 with his haunting and meditative drama “A Ghost Story” and followed it by working with Robert Redford in “The Old Man & the Gun”. Lowery’s latest “The Green Knight” sees him putting his own unique spin on Authurian medieval fantasy. I’m in.
“The Green Knight” sports a killer cast led by Dev Patel. He plays King Arthur’s impulsive and obstinate nephew Sir Gawain who sets off on a quest to challenge the mysterious Green Knight. The film also stars Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander, and Sean Harris among others. The first trailer features an eerie and slightly twisted vibe and shows off Lowery’s knack for visual storytelling.
“The Green Knight” is set for release on May 29th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
Watched this the other day when it popped up on a movie site I go to. This looks very cool and has a eerie , mythic vibe. Growing up I was always into myth and fantasy stuff like Lord of the Rings and the King Arthur legend. So this is definitely on my watch list.
This is right up my alley. I really like David Lowery. Had a chance to meet him a couple years back. He has a real grasp of visual storytelling.
I saw the teaser yesterday as it looks pretty damn interesting while I have to praise Dev Patel for some of the choices he’s doing lately as he’s definitely taking some risks as an actor.
Very true. I like Patel but even more with some of these roles he is tackling.
OK, that looks interesting. The Green Knight was one of the few Arthurian legends I sat down and properly read as a kid.
Oh nice. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never read it.
LOL, I’ve never properly read most of the Arthurian legends; that’s one of the few (and the very first), and so it sticks out in my mind.
This looks great. Just avoid the YouTube/social media comments on the trailer with crazy people losing their mind over the casting of Dev Patel! It’s sad people are so narrow-minded, it really is. He’s such a great actor and anything by David Lowery should be respected.
Why am I not surprised? I’m with you. I really like Patel and I’m anxious to see what he brings to the story.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Dev Patel
So you’re saying there’s a chance you may see it? 😉
