First Glance: “Deadpool & Wolverine”

What can I say, I never got onboard with the Deadpool movies. They felt more like gimmicks – hard R-rated superhero movies that leaned heavy on star Ryan Reynolds’ schtick. But then you have Hugh Jackman as Wolverine – some of the very best superhero casting we have had to date. What happens when you bring those two things together? I suppose “Deadpool & Wolverine”, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s attempt to tap into the popularities of both.

Disney has dropped a lukewarm first trailer for the film and it doesn’t really tell us much. I guess you could say it’s more of a gag and tone sampler. Whatever you call it, the worse thing about it is the absence of Wolverine! Yes, I know it’s the first of what will be three or more trailers and we will see Jackman down the line. But this one could have really used him.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” opens in theaters on July 26th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.

  1. I ain’t seeing this. It looks mid. Plus, I’m fucking tired of Ryan Reynolds and his bullshit. Also, it’s directed by Shawn Levy and he’s largely just mediocre and I ain’t wasting my time in mediocrity.

  2. Yes I can’t say that I’m very excited about this. I’ve lost interest in most comic-book movies that are all the same thing to me. That being said, I did love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the 2013 film.

  3. I’ve stuck with all the Marvel films, series, etc. this long…so I guess I must be considered quite “incurable” at this point lol. Looking forward to this. I didn’t mind the lack of a “reveal” of Wolverine here. The team-up of these two has been anticipated and hyped so much…I didn’t expect to see much at this point. Will be interesting for me to see what other X-Men might appear,

  4. Not too interested myself. The ironic stink of the Deadpool movies is that they try to parody contemporary superhero movies, but then do everything you expect a superhero movie to do shortly after. Of all the heroes to shoot themsleves in the foot with a lack of self awareness, it being Deadpool is pretty tragic.
