It should go without saying that the existence of superhero fatigue is a real thing. The question is how far has it gotten? Many believe a good barometer with be Marvel’s upcoming film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”. The feature will bring Marvel’s first family into the MCU for the first time although exactly how remains somewhat of a mystery. Today Marvel Studios released their first teaser trailer and what we see seems to capture the spirit of the early source material while differing in some notable ways.
Fitting for the team’s 1961 comic book debut, the story is set on a 1960s retro-futuristic alternate earth (different than the MCU’s mainline universe). In the trailer it appears that the Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are already established in their world with the story referencing their origins rather than retelling them. Everyone gets to showcase their powers with the odd exception of Reed Richards, and we get a brief glimpse of the film’s antagonist, Galactus (voiced by the great Ralph Ineson).
It’s an interesting teaser with the aesthetic being the real highlight. But it doesn’t move the needle much for me. In some ways the whole multiverse concept still feels like a crutch and so far the returns have been pretty underwhelming. But as a fan of the Fantastic Four and of some of the casting, I’m curious to seeing where Marvel takes the characters and the audience.

Nope. Those aren’t considered parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although with this goofy multiverse nonsense they could be (ala Deadpool & Wolverine).

The teaser does make me more interested. The look of it reminds me of Wandavision. I’m cautiously optimistic. lol

This has a Jettsons-ish vibe to it. I dig it. I really like the retro look of everything here. Also, it looks like they got Galactus right, and that makes me a very happy camper. The movie’s got an uphill battle, though, to prove that it’s better than the movies that came before. I got my fingers crossed, and I’m absolutely going to check this one out. I thought Deadpool and Wolverine was going to be my last Marvel movie. Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in.

I hope they get Galactus right. Not enough to get a good read yet but it certainly doesn’t hurt having the great Ralph Ineson voicing him.
Superhero fatigue is indeed a real thing which is why I won’t be seeing the new Captain America film as I’m filled with too much anxiety over everything as I heard too many stuff on test screenings as I’m going to sit out and wait for it on Disney+.
As for this, I am actually intrigued as I love the look of it. The casting is perfect. Seeing the Thing cook (a great nod to The Bear) and that little robot… how can I not love this? This actually looks really cool. I just hope it doesn’t suck like the previous adaptations. Plus, it has John Malkovich.
Still haven’t seen Deadpool & Wolverine and I really don’t want to as the Honest Trailer for that film made me not want to see it. I fucking hate Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy. Deport their no-talent asses back to Canada! And take Reynolds’ no-talent bitch of a wife too!
I feel the same way about the Cap movie and the FF film. I’m going to stay optimistic as it has several pieces that are intriguing.
You’ve noticed the reference to The Bear? I’ve rewatched trailer a few times and they did something with the Thing that I didn’t notice with the previous adaptations. His eyes. You got a better look at them and there’s a humanity to them as that moved me.

Oh, Marvel knows how to reel me in. This may be the first MCU movie, in a very long time, I go to the theater to see. At heart, I remain an optimist. I’m willing to ignore the dreadful movies that preceded this one, although Michael Chiklis was an inspired casting choice for Ben Grimm.
I’ll be there to see it too. I’m intrigued as a FF fan. I’m also pretty high on the casting. Fingers crossed.
I hope the movie is a pleasant surprise. Will probably watch it. but am not looking forward to it based on the trailer

in the movie Multiverse of Madness, Dr. Strange told the other Reed Richards “Didn’t you peak in the 60’s” which makes me think this family is probably either got trapped in the universe the film takes place in or they are based in a new universe maybe the same one where the X-Men are in where Photon got stuck in. Captain Amercia new movie is supposed to provide some insight but not sure how they close the Gap between Loki, Antman with Kang, and F4… Plus how the heck Avengers Doomsday ties into this all. With Thanos there was a lead up and it seems we are not getting that with this phase.
Whew…that’s a lot of information to keep up with. LOL. That’s part of what frustrates me about the introduction of the multiverse.
