A couple of weeks ago we looked at underrated actors. Guy Pearce and Karl Urban were two that always pop into my mind. Today it’s the ladies’ turn. I’m talking about those actresses who have shown their amazing talents yet fail to get the appreciation and respect they deserve. There are several that come to mind but I’m just going to mention one who deserves some love. After that, it’s time for your voices.

It should be common knowledge now that I love Emily Blunt. Yes, I think she’s absolutely beautiful, but I also think she’s a tremendous actress. Blunt has been popping up in a lot more films recently but it’s clear she’s not considered a top tier actress. I think that needs to change. She’s a natural actress armed with an infectious sense of humor as well as a convincing dramatic presence. It may be easy for some people to dismiss her but I love her undeniable charm, razor sharp wit, and the grounded believability that she brings to every role. She’s a much more versatile actress than many give her credit for and I’m always interested whenever I see her name attached to a product.

So you now know my choice. It’s time or Your Voices. Who do you think are some of the more underrated actresses in film?

I’m amazed at how some actors have managed to become huge movie stars despite their mediocre talent while other immensely talented actors struggle to get the recognition or bigger roles that they deserve. There are several examples of fantastic actors who just can’t seem to gain the type of appreciate I think they deserve. Out of these talents there are two that top the list for me.

Guy Pearce and Karl Urban are two actors who have had a few smaller starring roles but are mainly reserved for supporting work. Urban has probably had the toughest time breaking in. It was his work in The Lord of the Rings that really caught my eye. But he’s also been really good in “Red”, “The Bourne Supremacy”, and of course the new Star Trek films. But it’s Pearce who I find to be the most underused and underappreciated. He’s one of my favorite actors and while he’s had more significant roles than Urban, he still seems like a second or third tier actor for some. His work in “Animal Kingdom”, “Memento”, “Lawless”, “LA Confidential”, “The Time Machine”, and “The Proposition” are some examples of his incredible talents.

Possibly the coolest thing about doing this site is the thought that people may actually enjoy reading what I write. Obviously that isn’t the driving force behind writing but in terms of movie blogging it does make a difference to me. That’s why every comment, every visit, and every ‘like’ brings a smile to my face. It’s very satisfying and in a way it’s an encouragement to keep on.
