It was seven years ago that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino gifted us with what I still consider to be his best film. I’m talking about “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, a movie brimming with memorable moments and memorable characters. One of the characters who stood out the most was Cliff Booth, Brad Pitt’s charming but volatile sidekick to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton. Pitt was a legitimate scene-stealer and would go on to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Now he’s back, reprising the role that so many of us loved.
In “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” Tarantino handles the screenwriting but passes the directing duties to none other than David Fincher. Together to tell the next chapter in stuntman turned ‘studio fixer’ Cliff Booth’s fascinating journey. The film is set in 1977, some eight years after the events of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. While there has been a lot of mystery surrounding its story, the long awaited first trailer gives us a good sense of the film’s style and tone.
“The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will (strangely) be released exclusively in IMAX on November 25th before streaming on Netflix December 23rd. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
Yes, definitely. I’m just not yet decided on whether to see this on Netflix or the theater.
The “exclusively on IMAX” kinda annoys me. I know I’ll get an early press screener, but I’d like to see it on the big screen. And I’m not all that crazy with the one IMAX screen within 75 miles of me.
Ok the Imax exclusive mentioned on the post flew by me. That is unusual. I always thought Imax was for spectacles ( like Dune). A widescreen should be enough for a Tarantino subject. Anyway , 75 miles is a journey. It might be worth it though.
I may make the trip if I’m up there seeing something else. If not, I’ll wait for my FYC screener. Not sure why they aren’t giving it a broader release.
Looking forward to it, but I too was a bit surprised when the release date info was announced and we had this IMAX asterisk attached. Our IMAX is only four miles away, so if it sounds good we’ll watch it before it hits Netflix…but if it has some question marks, streaming it is. I’m not sure what the deal is with Thanksgiving Week either. Lots of other things to do at that time of year for some, and it isn’t like there aren’t more movies opening right before and after it.
Thanksgiving and Christmas Day have become popular release days for big movies. It’s strange for sure, but apparently a lot of people go on those days.🤷🏻♂️
For sure, studios have always liked to release movies considered to be award-contenders at year’s end, as they will be more fresh-in-mind for voters. This exclusive two-week IMAX showing for Cliff Booth can only be explained by the fact somebody wrote a big check to make it happen. It is starting to feel like there might be less overall movies showing in IMAX in the future because of the willingness to have exclusivity for one movie over more than one week (like this one, The Odyssey, Dune, etc.). I hope this isn’t a trend.
