There seems to be a new wave of horror thrillers featuring unexpected actors or actresses playing terrorizing nutcases (more on that later in the week). I kinda like that. One of them sees (of all people) Octavia Spencer playing a small town hermit who woos teenagers to come party in her basement. She supplies the booze and the party space, but (as we see in the trailer) she’s not what you would call…stable.
The new trailer for “Ma” has dropped and it has some real potential especially with Spencer at the helm. Check it out below and let me know if you’ll be checking it out or giving it a pass.

I admit to not really be high on Tate Taylor as a filmmaker but…. oh…. this looks like campy fun. Plus, to see Octavia Spencer as a villain and one that maybe your friend but is extremely likely to stab you if you fuck with her. Oh, how can I not get on board with this? Hell, I probably would end up rooting for her to teach those stupid little teenagers a lesson in underage drinking and stupidity. I think there is a twist to this. She’s the good one and the kids are the bad people.
It’s funny because you hit on several reasons why she may be the one you would root for. Well until you see her twisted bend toward murder, statutory rape, etc. You’re right though, this could be good campy fun.
