First Glance: “Black Widow” (Final Trailer)

WidowPOSTER

I’ve done a really good job of staying away from any spoilers for Marvel’s first big movie of 2020. While I still can’t muster much excitement for “The Eternals”, I’m really looking forward to “Black Widow”. So far I’ve only watched the trailers which (as you would expect from the MCU) have been well done. Now we’ve been given what is tagged as the movie’s final trailer and with it comes a few pretty cool reveals.

This last glimpse of “Black Widow” is a cool mix of family moments and big action. In addition to Scarlett Johansson we get more of Florence Pugh (always a good thing) and a few more details about the two sisters, their pasts, and their complicated relationship. We also get the first official mention of Taskmaster, a villain/anti-hero who is an absolute perfect fit for this kind of movie. The action has a strong “Winter Soldier” vibe and we see everything from kinetic close-quartered combat to massive set pieces.

“Black Widow” is still slated for a May 1st release. Check out the final trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.

  1. This looks like a very entertaining piece of marvel action. The trailer revealed just enough to really get the hype going and anticipation amped up. Looking forward to seeing this one .But im with you on the Eternals , which I thought was an odd choice to do a movie but will see after a trailer lands in full .Just not too pumped for much of this next phase of MCU really .

    • The next phase hasn’t excited me at all. And I know Black Widow is considered new, but it has an obvious tie to the old. And as a fan of Taskmaster, this looks sooo good.

  2. I’m excited for this as I think Florence Pugh is going to steal the show and I’m hoping that she becomes the next Black Widow for the next phase of the MCU!!!! She is given the funny lines as it looks like she and Scar-Jo 3:16 already have that chemistry working. Plus, that clip of family banter is hilarious.

I know there’s still mystery for The Eternals but I’m more intrigued by the other projects. Notably Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as the idea of Sam Raimi directing the film is exciting with the possibility of Tobey Maguire returning as Spider-Man from an alternate universe yet I think it might be too much for nerds to handle in the idea of Maguire meeting Tom Holland and them doing that pointing at each other bit.

    • I’m 100% with you on being more excited about those others. As for Pugh, I absolutely think she will be a fixture in the upcoming MCU movies. That is a huge plus for the Marvel.

  3. I’ll be honest, not much is exciting me for Marvel right now. Whether it’s this, GoTG3, Shang-Chi, The Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder (in the very small minority that didn’t love Ragnarok), or Dr. Strange Multiverse (Raimi’s good, but it’s been some time since he’s directed and “creative differences” already makes me skeptical), I’m more out than in on Marvel right now and perhaps superhero flicks as a whole. Even WW1984 I’m seeing because it’s gonna be big, not that I’m necessarily looking forward to it.

Mild excitement for another Spidey film, Deadpool 3 (just to see if he really can fit into the MCU) and I guess Black Panther, but Coogler himself sounds like he’s over the pressure of trying to top the first and man, Boseman looked super tired at All-Star weekend still doing the Wakanda pose. I worry about burnout on these two. I said it before that Marvel’s kind of dead to me after Endgame, and there’s absolutely no way I get Disney+ to keep up on things. That’s OK, all things must come to an end.

    • All understandable. I’m having a tough time mustering exciting me for this new phase. And I’m with you on Ragnarok. I found it to have funny moments but it seemed out of sync with the rest of the MCU. I am curious about Dr. Strange and I like where the last Spidey left off. But as for DC, I’m really pumped for WW1984.

I think what makes Black Widow so exciting for me is how much it looks like “Winter Soldier”. If BW falls in line it, I’ll be thrilled.

  4. I will of course be seeing this. I think we have all been tied into the MCU thus far, Endgame felt like an (epic) ending so it’s hard to get enthusiastic about the next payees, we invested in the Avengers characters and their coming together so much, and though the peripheral characters are now getting their own movies, it’s not quite the same. Yet 😊

  5. This trailer is admittedly good, even if we still know nothing about what happened in Budapest! 😉 I’ll be seeing this for sure, but I’m way more excited for Shang-Chi. So much potential there for a refreshing take on a tired genre.
