Or more accurately titled “Train to Busan presents: Peninsula”. This is the sequel to the stellar South Korean zombie movie “Train to Busan”. That 2016 survival-horror romp was a tension-soaked, edge-of-your-seat experience full of good characters and laced with some pretty thoughtful social commentary. And it’s action sequences still stand out to me.
Now director Yeon Sang-ho returns with “Peninsula”. The idea is that four years after the zombie apocalypse Korea is essentially a wasteland. At least that’s what a group of soldiers on a retrieval mission think until they discover a groups of survivors. With zombie swarms all around, will we see the best or worst of humanity in the face of desperation and survival? The new trailer shows a much bigger scope and even crazier action. Sign me up.
“Peninsula” is set to release later this year although a US date hasn’t been nailed down just yet. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
I saw this trailer last night and… I so want to see it.
Oh me too. I’m guessing you’ve seen “Train to Busan”?
Not yet but I’m planning to for October’s Halloween season.
YES! You must. It really, really surprised me.
Isn’t “Train to Busan” on netflix now? I just glanced at your rating for it and looks like it’s worth seeing.
I’m not sure but if it is you should absolutely see it. I found it to be better than your run-of-the-mill zombie flick. In fact, it made my Top 10 that year. A big part of what made it good was the characters. I’m hoping the sequel remembers that.
OK thanks for the info.
OMG looks awesome and I need to see the first one first!
Wait…are you serious are are you pummeling me with sarcasm? LOL! You and a zombie movie??? 😉
Well I’m used to them! Walking Dead and the movie with Brad Pitt (can’t remember the title but it had a Z in it). I’ve got Train to Busan for tonight’s fun movie 🤣
World War Z! I loved that movie. I think the best zombie movies are the ones who focus on characters. Train to Busan does that SOOO well. It’s intense, thrilling, and a ton of fun. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!
It’ll be on my Monday Movie post this week! 😊
So, now we are in the ‘Train-to-Busan-iverse.” Nice! I can’t like though, this has me really excited. Thanks for putting it on my radar.
I’m excited too. My only hope is that they don’t skip out on the character building. The characters were such a big part of Train.
Not really my cup of tea.
I understand. I’m guessing you haven’t seen the first film then?
Not yet; I’ve never been into zombie films (never seen any, actually), although there’s a couple I’m considering watching (including Train to Busan).
Train to Busan is very much a zombie movie but it stands apart mainly in how well it handles its characters.
