Today we finally got our first look at one of my most eagerly anticipated films of 2021 and one of the movies I’m most curious about. “The Last Duel” is the new film from director Ridley Scott which automatically puts it on my must-see list. Not because all of his films are great, but because I always find his work interesting and have enjoyed far more of his movies than not. Adding to the intrigue, its written by Nicole Holofcener, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck. Cap it off with a cast that includes Damon, Affleck, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer.
The story is based on Eric Jager’s 2004 book about the last recorded Trial By Combat duel in France. Set in the 14th century, a mullet-topped Matt Damon accuses his squire Adam Driver of raping his wife Comer. Driver’s character denies the claim which leads to the eponymous duel to the death. Scott is no stranger to period epics and I love the brutal setting. I’ll admit I did snicker a bit at Damon’s mop and Affleck’s all-blonde look. But I’m all-in with this and I hope it reaches its enormous potential.
“The Last Duel” hits theaters October 15th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
Looks good. This is the 2nd Ridley Scott duel movie, the first being “The Duellists” from 1977. Interestingly, it was Ridley’s work in “The Duellist” that led to his directing “Alien”! Truth is always stranger than fiction.
Yes indeed. I’m a big Ridley Scott fan so this one instantly hit my radar!
I just saw the trailer as I don’t remember seeing Ben Affleck in it but it still looks good as I hope it is another solid hit from Ridley Scott who does have an inconsistent filmography but his hits are often spot-on.
Affleck is in there a few times. Just look for the guy with the funky blonde hair. LOL
I re-watched it and yeah… I finally see him as I heard he was meant to play the role that Driver is playing but had other commitments and took on a smaller role and gave the big part to Driver. I read the historical significance that the film is based on and it is even more intriguing.
That’s right. I’ve intentionally kept away from ready the actual true story. Want to go in blind and be surprised.
Count me in for sure. This is a title I have completely lost track of. Thanks for the heads up
I can’t wait. I like the majority of what Ridley Scott does. This seems right in his wheelhouse.
I Think Jodie Comer would be Good Choice for Emma Frost In MCU
I Think Jodie Comer would be great choice for Marie Antoinette In a a bio-pic of Marie Antoinette
I Think Jodie Comer Is a Gorgeous Woman
