2022 is already shaping up to be good one for movie lovers. Case in point: the epic revenge thriller “The Northman”. Visionary filmmaker Robert Eggers (“The Witch”, “The Lighthouse”) brings his stark visual style to 10th Century Iceland, a place that feels right in his wheelhouse. To add to the appeal, the film sports an all-star cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Björk, Claes Bang, and Ralph Ineson.
The film seems to have a pretty basic revenge story premise, but it’s the setting and Eggers’ furious style that really sells this. Skarsgård plays Amleth, a man driven by vengeance since he was a child. That’s when he watched his Viking King father (Hawke) murdered, his mother (Kidman) kidnapped, and their kingdom stolen by his uncle Fjölnir (Bang). This thing looks violent, ferocious, and absolutely absorbing. I can’t wait to see it.
“The Northman” opens exclusively in theaters April 22nd. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.

Weell this all loks epic, I’m in for Skarsgård, like him a lot. Taylor-Joy’s accent sounds a bit iffy, but it’s too little to make a judgement on.
Oooooh this trailer hit all the right notes for me. I’m so in!!!!
I’m 1000% in. Robert Eggers seems to make the kinds of movies I really love. I don’t typically latch onto what a director is “doing next” after seeing the current thing they’ve done, but that’s exactly what happened with me and The Lighthouse. Couldn’t not find out what he might be up to next and then saw something about a movie set in Iceland. Not sure if I’ll watch the trailer yet as I want to keep as much of it in the unknown as I can. Very excited though!
Oh HECK yes. I saw Claes Bang in “The Last Vermeer” not long ago and was truly impressed by him. The rest of the cast is top notch also. I loved “The Lighthouse” — even though I was a bit unnerved by it — but haven’t seen “The Witch” yet. Seeing Skarsgard shirtless and kicking butt helps build the case to see it for me 🙂
I was actually the opposite on “The Lighthouse”. I was in on it for a while but then it lost me the further it went. I LOVE “The Witch” you should absolutely see it ASAP.
Keith, I was scoping The Witch plot and reviews last night. One person said it may be the scariest horror movie ever. I can’t take scary that much. How would you rate it? I don’t like that cover with the goat head!!!!!
I remember rating it pretty high. I loved it. As for being scary. It has been a while since I last watched it, but I do remember finding it really creepy.
Did you watch “The Lighthouse” to the end? It was quite the mindbender as I recall!
I did. Saw it in the theater.
OH FUCK YEAH!!!!!!! I loved what Eggers has done so far but oh…. this looks a bit like Terrence Malick going to the Dark Side. Seeing Bjork in that brief moment… oh man… between this and the post-credit bit from Spider-Man: No Way Home yesterday (here’s my full review). It is so good to be a film buff.
BTW, what do you really think of that new Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer? I think it looks fucking shit and I don’t want people to put anymore money into J.K. Lucas’ bullshit.
To be honest, I saw the FB3 trailer and had no idea what I was watching. I’m so out of the loop on that world. I’ve never even seen a Harry Potter movie!😂
Just watch the 8 films of the series. The first Fantastic Beasts is good but… the 2nd one is just beyond horrible. It pissed off a lot of fans and I don’t think J.K. Lucas is going to get a lot of love this Xmas as there’s a new trailer for a Harry Potter reunion but w/o her as the cast have basically told her to fuck off.
🔵 Pass 🍌🍇🍎🍉 🔵
I’m so excited for this!
ME TOO! This is right up my alley!!!!
