First Glance: “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”

Hey look, an upcoming marvel movie that may help wash away the bad taste left by their last film, “Thor: Love & Thunder”! As someone who genuinely likes the comic book characters, Thor’s latest wasn’t a happy experience. And the steady stream of mediocre television hasn’t exactly helped the MCU’s current state. And then along comes the trailer for “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and suddenly I’m feeling a slight reason for optimism.

Both of the previous Ant-Man movies have been flawed but fine when it comes to entertainment. This third feature looks as if it has a lot more significance than what we have seen before. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer all return, while MCU newcomer Kathryn Newton takes over as Cassie Lang (still not sure why, but ok). But the big attraction from the trailer is Jonathan Majors reprising his role of Kang the Conqueror. There are several other teases to be found if you look close. But most importantly, it looks like we’re finally getting a movie that (hopefully) will bring some of these MCU properties together.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” hits theaters February 21st. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.

  1. Yeah, I’m going to see this. It looks different from the previous films but the world is setting up definitely is set to be a game-changer. Plus, more seeds are being planted for… the Young Avengers.

  2. Your right on getting that dreadful Thor movie out ones senses. This actually looks quite interesting and looks like it really ups the stakes . I enjoyed the previous ones and the introduction of Kang on the big screen looks to set in motion the MCUs cinematic future.

  3. The Ant-Man movies have always been some of my least favorite MCU installments, especially Ant-Man and the Wasp. However, Quantumania looks great and definitely gets me hyped to see it.

  4. I’ll be there when it opens. That being said, this trailer really wasn’t that interesting to me. I hope if nothing else this Ant-Man story really does forward and/or put into focus the next “Avengers” narrative.

    • I really think this is going to be a pretty significant movie. Lord knows they need to get the MCU to start gelling. It feels so messy and erratic right now. This gives me hope that they’re finally going to start putting some pieces together.

  5. I’m definitely there opening weekend. I really like seeing the expanded role for Michelle Pfeiffer, and there is a family “Fantastic Four” tone with the addition of teenage daughter Cassie. I know in the comics, Cassie joins the teenage New Avengers, calling herself Stature and becomes a hero herself. And the next Avengers film is called “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” so there is a lot to chew on here. Although, I must admit, I’m feeling the first pangs of Marvel fatigue.

    • I am into Marvel fatigue to be honest, but this revived me a bit. I’m really interested to see where it goes. It certainly looks like it will have a far-reaching impact. And I’m guessing Cassie will be a Young Avenger perhaps?

      • Sorry, I meant Young Avengers, not new (Marvel Fatigue!). And Yes, along with Kate Bishop from the Hawkeye TV series. You might want to do a Wikipedia search on Young Avengers, but they’ve already introduced the core characters in the many Disney + series so far. The two sons in Wanda Vision, grow up and join the team, as also the grandson of Isaiah Bradley in Falcon & the Winter Soldier. It was a popular and well done comic series in the early 2000’s.

      • Yep, you’re right. Unfortunately I’ve checked out of the television series. Just wasn’t enjoyed them. Liked Loki but have had a hard time connecting to any of the shows that followed.

  6. I’ll see it for sure as the Ant-Man and Wasp franchise is a favorite…my only concern is the trailer really didn’t look much like an Ant-Man movie to me…way too much happening ! Looked more like GoTG!

    • You’re right, it looks MUCH different that the other Ant-Man films. Looks like this one will have a more significant role to play in the overall MCU. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out.
