The trailer for the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe landed today and what can I say, “The Marvels” certainly looks like an MCU movie. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing will probably depend on how you view the current state of the MCU. Me, it kinda plays like I expected – very light, whimsical, and light on stakes. To be fair, it’s just a trailer so it’s hard to get a good gauge. But this first look doesn’t exactly ease my hesitation.
“The Marvels” sees Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) swapping places with each other every time one of them uses their powers. It’s played more for comedy in the trailer, but I’m assuming (and hoping) there’s some kind of serious threat. Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, adding a little old-school MCU weight to the story. How it will turns out is anyone’s guess. The trailer has a very ‘television’ feel to it, but again it’s a small sample size. What’s more concerning is that it doesn’t exactly boost my excitement for the movie. Who knows, maybe that’ll change.
“The Marvels” hits theaters November 10th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
Probably will have to see this just for the cats!
Bwahahahaha. #TeamCats
I am missing the stakes…. Looks fun and cute, almost could be an animation movie.
I can definitely see it as an animated movie. For me it feels much more like the television series than a major big screen movie.
This trailer continues my erosion in the interest in the MCU . Wasn’t a big fan of the Ms Marvel either and this trailer has a really frankly stupid vibe . Total skip for me till it streams.
It really didn’t impress me much at all. And like you I didn’t care for Ms. Marvel either. This looks very much in that same vein.
It really feels the MCU is losing steam fast. But I suspect what could save it , the Fantastic Four . That’s a property I’m very much looking forward to in the near future.
I hope they get the FF right. They’re so great individually and as a team.
I fucking love Ms. Marvel as that is one of my favorite things from the MCU though I can understand a lot of the worries considering the reaction to Quantumania as I think I wasn’t harsh enough about that film as I’ve been reflecting on it as there’s more things I didn’t like than what was good about this film.
I do hope this and GOTG vol. 3 do some course correction for the MCU. That’s all I want although I do think this trailer is hilarious. Especially for the trio that we’re going to be hanging around with. I love that Kamala’s family is in the film as they’re just in it for the ride.
I made it a little over halfway through Ms. Marvel and just couldn’t stick with it. This trailer had a lot of the same vibe. I can see it really working for fans of the show.
Seeing it.
Me too….with fingers crossed
I don’t love it. Carol and Monica are great characters that I enjoyed in their last appearances, but I just had so many issues with Ms Marvel despite so badly wanting to love Kamala, and this trailer features her very heavily, so it’s giving me Ms. Marvel vibes and I just did not like that show.
I feel exactly the same way. I like all three actresses and especially like Carol and Monica. But the vibe you mention from the TV show didn’t work for me. And the trailer has those same vibes all through it.
To be honest I’m not really excited. It just doesn’t really look impressive to me. To be honest I’ve felt really burnt out with the MCU lately and I haven’t really been enjoying their movies and other stuff that much. And I’m not really a fan of any of the characters that seem to be in this movie as well.
(Although I will admit them using their powers and switching places when doing so is pretty creative)
I’m with you on both the MCU and its characters. I haven’t been nearly as invested in it as I once was. This particular trailer falls right in with the other recent stuff. I just can’t get excited for it.
This trailer has me a bit hopeful Marvel will find a way to entertain audiences once more, even if they’ve lost their way lately. I have been as down on the MCU as any fan, but there’s something here that has me hopeful. The quick edits, the Ms. Marvel family…I don’t know. I think this might be a good project based on what I see. I’m not ready to walk away from Marvel…yet. Giving them another year.😀
Oh, I wish I had that optimism. I just can’t get into this film at all. And I really want to. Hopefully the second trailer will work better for me. Fingers crossed.
