Netflix has a new movie scheduled for Mother’s Day, and it’s a far cry from some soft and lathery family drama or rom-com. “The Mother” looks to be a full-on action thriller that sees Jennifer Lopez coming face-to-face with the old life she tried to put behind her. The film is directed by Niki Caro (“Whale Rider”, “Mulan”) and also stars Joseph Fiennes, Gael García Bernal, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, and Paul Raci. The new trailer gives us a really good taste of what we have to look forward to.
Lopez plays a mother who comes out of hiding to find her kidnapped daughter. After cutting a deal with the FBI following a botched mission that left several agents dead, her character went off the grid in order to protect her young daughter. Years pass and her now 12-year-old daughter is taken by enemies from her past. She immediately goes on the hunt and will do anything to get her little girl back. I like the look and sound of this. Sure, there are elements of the story that ring familiar. But I love seeing J-Lo letting loose like this.
“The Mother” premieres on Netflix May 12th. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
Maybe, as I like J-Lo and have netflix.
I’m guessing a lot of people will watch it just for that reason – they like Lopez and they have Netflix. 😀
Yeah, I want to see this and I think my mom will enjoy this. I’m glad J-Lo is getting this career renaissance happening and I hope it continues. We all knew she could act and sing in the late 90s/early 2000s but I think that period in the late 2000s where she wanted to be taken seriously definitely hurt her career and spent a lot of time being in a sea of mediocrity. Hustlers I think saved her career and she’s doing all sorts of different things that is showing her strength.
She can definitely act. She latched onto a couple of stinkers early in her acting career. But they weren’t bad because of her. I’m glad she back in movies.
I look forward to anything J Lo does. This does bring a memory of a previous movie, but she pulled it off as I suspect she will do with this one.
I looking forward to it too. Not really expecting anything groundbreaking. But not everything has to be, right?
Looks pretty intense. I’m in. After Shotgun Wedding it can only go upwards for Jennifer Lopez. Okay, I admit I kind of enjoyed that one.
I wasn’t high on Shotgun but it did have its moments. I’m more interested in this one. Fingers crossed.
