Robert Eggers has established himself as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of our time. Simply put, you know a Robert Eggers movie when you see it. His love for period horror and folklore has permeated every feature he has made including his last film – 2024’s “Nosferatu”. Now he’s back with another Gothic chiller inspired by a classic tale. “Werwulf” looks as if it could exist in the same dark and terrifying world as “Nosferatu”. Look no further than the new trailer to see what I mean.
Set in 13th-century England, “Werwulf” stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a local farmer who comes face-to-face with a curse that has fallen upon a small village. What is the curse? The film’s title pretty much says it all. Eggers brings back several of his favorite stars including Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. And he once again incorporates a strikingly distinct visual style which only adds to the terror. Dark, visceral, unsettling – just some of the adjectives the fittingly describe this wickedly good first-look.

I watched half of the trailer and stopped. I’ve seen The Lighthouse and Northman and thought they were good. I liked Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Kraven, and wasn’t he the dad in 28 years later? Definitely going to see it and probably in daylight 🙂
He was indeed the dad. My favorite Eggers film is still The Witch but I really liked Nosferatu as well. This looks to fall in with those films very well.

That’s what I heard. I saw The Lighthouse and was totally freaked out. The being trapped part got me bigtime. I can usually take monster movies pretty well, but with this director, I’m a little nervous.
Yeah, I’m going to see this. I love his films as the only reason I postponed my Auteurs piece on him is so that I can see this film and finish it.
Eggers will definitely fit in well with your series. His movies are stunningly unique.
I think it is half-done, I don’t remember as I had to postpone it. In fact, I’ve been postponing a lot of things as I’m just burned out right now and focusing my time on the World Cup.
The World Cup has definitely slowed my movie watching!

France and Spain are really good as I do hope the Spanish beat the shit out of Penaldo. France is going to kill Paraguay. Paraguay sucks. I have a good feeling the U.S. will make it to the quarterfinals but now…. I want them at the semi-finals more than ever. My longshot picks now are Norway and Morocco.
Argentina had a hell of a game against Cape Verde as that team was extremely impressive. This is their first World Cup and they made a hell of a debut. They went the distance. The Argentina-Egypt game will be good.
