Jack London’s 1903 novel “The Call of the Wild” was first adapted to the screen in 1935 and starred Clark Gable, then in 1972 starring Charlton Heston, and in 1996 starring Rutger Hauer. In 2020 we’ll get a fresh new take on the adventure classic this time starring Harrison Ford and a big CGI dog. Don’t worry, it looks better than it sounds.
The first trailer shows off a grizzled Harrison Ford, a ton of gorgeous scenery, and some pretty good looking CGI effects. But I’m curious to see how well a digital doggie holds up over the span of an entire movie. You know Ford has the chops. And appearances by Dan Stevens, Omar Sy, and Karen Gillan doesn’t hurt.
“The Call of the Wild” is slated for a February 21, 2020 release. Check out the trailer below and let me know if you’ll be seeing it or taking a pass.
OMG I will have to see this. But if the doggy dies I will never speak to you again. 😉
Wait, wait, wait…I need to add a disclaimer: “The owner, writer, and pseudo-film critic of Keith & the Movies is in no way responsible for the fate of the CGI doggie.” That should clear me of any and all involvement. 🙂
Fingers crossed Jay over at Assholes will review it, she always puts up a dead dog alert, that way I can stay clear of bawling my eyes out. 🤣🤣
Alerts are for babies!!!! LOLOL
I have triggers!!! 🤣
I understand. Most of us do (if we’re honest).
This was one of my favorite books growing up (never seen any of the film adaptations) and seeing Harrison Ford take on the leading role already has me ready to see the film, even if it’s terrible 🙂
I’m interested in it too. It has been a long time since I read the book. But Harrison Ford is definitely a draw so I’ll be checking it out.
This looks so good . I read about it over a year ago and was hoping it would be a Christmas time release but I supposed its a bit crowded and studio didn’t want it to get lost . The trailer has me in for certain and Ford will bring it . Loved this book , so excited to see this adaptation.
Yep, I think keeping it out of the crowded Christmas season was probably a good move. Plus it adds some variety to the first of the year.
Call of the Wild is one of my favorite books. I love Naturalism; Jack London does it great! The film version, though, hmmm…I feel compelled to watch. I love Harrison.
Harrison is a huge draw for me too. And he looks right at home in that role. Have you seen any of the other film adaptations?
The 1935 version with Clark Gable. I was a girl, and don’t remember much if it was good or not. Ah, but the book!
I haven’t seen ALL of any of the adaptations. I have seen some of two including the Gable one.
Uh… I don’t know… the CGI doggie isn’t working for me and if the dog dies. I ain’t seeing it. I’m still not over the death of my dog a few years ago.
Oh I can completely understand where you’re coming from. May not be the time for something like this.
OK, I’d probably watch it for Ford!
Ford is the main attraction for me. Although the story is quite good. We shall see if they can pull it off.
I’ve seen the movie version of the 2000 TV adaption, which was quite good.
Call of the Wild is the best movie I have seen in many years. I strongly recommend it to everyone including families. Political commentary was inappropriate.
I was really surprised by it. A lot of heart and some really good performances. I’m anxious to show it to my wife and kids.
