A24 has released a new trailer for “Marty Supreme”, the new sports(ish) comedy-drama that’s generating a lot of awards season buzz for its star, Timothée Chalamet. The film is directed by Josh Safdie who works from a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein. Their story is loosely based on the life of American table tennis star Marty Reisman. Joining Chalamet is a fantastic supporting cast that included Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Fran Drescher, Abel Ferrara, Penn Jillette, and Sandra Bernhard. A24’s latest trailer gives us a broader look into what could be a surprise end of the year hit.

Set in the 1950s, Chalamet plays Marty Mauser, a young and wildly ambitious New Yorker who dreams of becoming a champion ping pong player. No one believes in him or his pursuit which only inspires him to prove everyone wrong. He starts small, hustling in bars on the Lower East Side. But while his obsession with being great catapults him to the top, it also leaves a trail of casualties which contributes to the film’s deeper drama. The movie has looked better with each new reveal, and this latest trailer is the best yet.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is bringing “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the very first time. Directed by Miloš Forman, the comedy-drama is considered by many to be one of greatest movies ever made. It’s also one of only three films to win all five major Oscars at the 48th Academy Awards. An all-star ensemble remains one of the biggest reasons this fascinating 1975 classic has stood the test of time.

Music biopics have grown increasingly popular with studios. Just in the last few years we’ve seen onscreen biographies of such acts as Elvis Presley, Queen, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and most recently Bruce Springsteen. Casting is already completed for The Beatles. But before their movie hits theaters, we’re getting “Michael”, a biopic based on the life of the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.

“Michael” is set to star Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine Jackson and nephew to Michael Jackson himself. The film is said to follow Michael’s journey from his introduction to stardom as a member of The Jackson 5 to his meteoric rise to global fame in the 1980s as a solo artist. The film also stars Miles Teller, Colman Domingo, and Nia Long, and is directed by Antoine Fuqua. Music biopics have varied wildly in quality and success. What should we expect from “Michael”? The new teaser gives us a taste.

The “Scream” franchise keeps chugging along with the upcoming release of “Scream 7”. Wes Craven’s popular slasher film series began in 1996, lasting for four features before running out of steam in 2011. But the series returned in 2022 with a decent reboot only to drop the ball in 2023 with the dreadful “Scream VI”. But now its back with a new creative team, a new focus, and a brand new trailer. And just by first looks, there’s some fun to be had.

“Scream VI” welcomes back the series star Neve Campbell who returns as the original protagonist Sidney Prescott. She and her daughter Tatum (Isabel May) find their quiet, small town life disrupted by the murderous Ghost Face. The trailer also reveals a returning Courtney Cox as dogged reporter Gale Weathers. And it appears they aren’t the only veteran cast members to reappear. Kevin Williamson (who wrote three of the four original Scream movies) directs what looks to be a fun yet derivative sequel. Still, it can’t be much worse than the previous installment.

Sam Raimi is back with “Send Help”, a twisted genre-bending experience that stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien. It’s Raimi’s first film since 2022’s “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness”. Rather than playing in established cinematic universes, this time Raimi is making a wildly original film although one full of fun inspirations from “Misery” to “Cast Away”. The new trailer gives us a good grasp of what Raimi is going for by revealing a dark comedy that turns into full-blown survival horror.

McAdams plays Linda Liddle, a meek and modest office worker in a big city firm ran by the weaselly prig Bradley (O’Brien). The degradation from her snobbish jerk of a boss is taking its toll on her. But the tables are turned after a plane crash over the ocean leaves the pair stranded on a deserted island. The two sole survivors must work together if they want to survive. But Bradley’s arrogant sense of control pushes Linda too far, and she quickly lets him know there is a new boss in charge. The trailer is a perfect setup for this crazy blend of humor and horror. I can’t wait to see it.
